Pack Your Bags

Below are a few reminders of things to pack for your upcoming trip to Costa Rica.

  • PASSPORT!!

    • Actual AND a photocopy

  • Cash- for tips and purchases in town (some places won't take credit cards). American money is accepted if the bills are in good condition. You'll pay for massages, nails, parasailing, surf lessons, etc. in cash.

  • Credit card- For ATV/ziplining and Manuel Antonio excursions

  • Clothing

    • Wedding party: suits/dresses and shoes!

    • All guests: wedding and vacation appropriate; beachwear/resort casual attire

    • Closed-toe shoes if you are going on ATV/ziplining excursion (they will get completely wet)

  • American currency for misc. spending/shopping

  • Soaps

    • Face

    • Body

  • Lotions

    • Moisturizing

    • Sunscreen

  • Chapstick

  • Shaving cream

  • Shaving equipment

    • Electric clippers/hand razor

  • Eye drops

  • Legal Drugs

    • Prescriptions

    • Aspirin/pain relievers

    • Allergy

  • Glasses/sunglasses; contact lens supplies

  • Phone charger!!!

  • Electric converters are not necessary in Costa Rica.


NOTE: Casa 9 rooms are equipped with hair dryers, safes, mini fridges, body wash, and shampoo. There is one iron at Casa 9, so if you want to use one, we will have to share.

Staying in Contact

Check with your cellular provider before you leave to verify what your international plan includes to avoid unexpected charges. Many travelers use WhatsApp, a smartphone app that allows you to call and text over WiFi for free. Marcel, the concierge at Casa 9 is quick to respond to WhatApp messages, so make sure you save his number in case you need him before or during the trip: +506 7284 0700

Brandon and Craig will also be reachable via WhatsApp during our time at Casa 9.

Paying for things in Costa Rica

We've been advised that most places in Costa Rica will accept the American dollar. Credit cards are also widely accepted. Please notify your credit card carrier(s)/bank of your trip in advance to avoid disruption of services. ATMs are available in Jaco. Be sure to check with your bank about foreign transaction fees.

Booking Excursion and Activities

Important note: For guests staying at Casa 9, please do not book any excursions or activities in Jaco without going through our concierge, Marcel. Our contract stipulates that we must book through Casa 9!

Remote/offsite guests, you can book through our concierge Marcel Ortega, but are NOT obligated because you are NOT staying at the host property. Marcel claims he can get you a better deal.

All guests, if you have not signed up for activities, you will be able to do so for most upon arrival to Jaco, Costa Rica.

Estimated costs for excursions and add-on activities:

  • ATV/waterfall/zipline $135 (pay with credit card at site)

  • ATV/waterfall only $86 (credit card)

  • Manuel Antonio Park tour $106 (credit card)

  • massage (1 hour) $50 (cash to Marcel)

  • parasailing $130 (cash)

  • manicures/pedicures (cash, cost varies by service)
